Step by Step Guide

Set Out

  • Select tank size, shape and location.
  • Make position of tank, S.W.D, filter, and pump line. Ensure the excavation is 15cm bigger than tank on each side.

Assembly of Modules

  • Assemble modules. Determine which modules, will be used for penetration including S.W.D. inlet and outlet, pump suction hose and dip stick.
  • Cut penetration and set aside.
Note: Dip stick and pump suction hose must go to bottom of tank but not through base of module.

Assembly of tanks

Excavation

  • Excavation minimum 40cm deeper than modules for pedestrian traffic, 60cm for cars.
  • Splay edges of excavation (approx 30cm)
  • Clean out excavated hole.
  • Line sides with geotextile and extend to base of tank.
  • Fill base hole to minimum depth of 10cm with compacted washed sand and if required slope 5cm to pump outlet.

Liner

  • Place liner over hole and drop it in. You will need at least 4 people but the more the better.

Drop liner in hole

First Module

  • Place the first corner module in position with geotextile covering the external corner. This must be done to each external corner and will cushion the edge of the modules against the liner.

Modules

  • Continue to place modules in positon, ensuring the modules with the penetration are placed in the correct position.

Fitting of modules

Taping up Liner

  • Fold edges of liner around tank.
  • Overlap and tape with duct tape. Due to multiple layers you may need to trim some of the folds away. Take care not to cut the side of the tank.

Taping up the liner

Filter

  • Install the bio filter after the inlet and outlet penetrations have been made. The top of the filter should be at ground level or top of the slab level to allow cover to be removed to clean filter basket.

Penetrations

  • Locate all penetrations.
  • Slit liner in 1/8th to size of pipe that is being used.
  • Place pipe through liner to depth required and pull up the 8 triangles of liner and duct tape to pipe.
  • Place stainless steel hose clip around pipe and liner.

Penetration inlet/outlet

Geotextile & Sand

  • Wrap side geotextile over tank. Completely cover rest of tank with geotextitle.
  • For garden use: Place a minimum of 15cm of compacted washed sand, with minimum 15cm of soil.
For driveways/garages: Place minimum 30cm of compacted washed sand and minimum 20cm of compacted crushed rock.

Cover tank with geotextile and sand
